Great Work Comments on the work

A scene from the work called “shirokaki,” performed before rice planting.
This involves filling the rice paddy with water before planting, breaking up clods of soil with a hoe, and leveling the surface to prevent water leakage and improve the establishment and growth of seedlings.
It is usually done three times: rough plowing, intermediate plowing, and planting plowing.
Furthermore, before this plowing work, levees are made to store water in the rice paddy. This is a plastering-like job of applying mud, and it is repeated year after year. This is also a tremendous amount of labor, and one cannot help but feel awe when thinking about the hardships of farmers until harvest.
Ah, how great are farmers!!
