We extend our heartfelt congratulations on the opening of the “10th Commemorative Toyama International Contemporary Art Exhibition – 2026 ART/X/TOYAMA,” held at Niikawa Bunka Hall in Uozu City. This remarkable event brings together ambitious works by artists from Japan and abroad in one inspiring venue.
“ART/X” is a contemporary art exhibition originating in Toyama, created by local artists who have invited creators from across Japan and around the world in pursuit of new currents of creative expression. Over the years, it has firmly established itself as a platform where visitors can encounter emerging artistic trends and the passion of the participating artists. The richly diverse works—each shaped by the landscapes, cultures, and sensibilities of their respective countries—continue to captivate not only art enthusiasts but also many residents of our prefecture.
Launched in 1993, this exhibition now reaches its memorable 10th edition. Its long and distinguished history is surely the result of its enduring commitment to embracing the spirit of each era while boldly confronting the unknown, symbolized by “X.” We are delighted to learn that this year’s exhibition welcomes participants from eight countries: France, Poland, Turkey, the Netherlands, Slovenia, China, Germany, and South Korea. We look forward with great anticipation to a venue where creative sensibilities transcend national boundaries, and we wish to express our renewed respect to the members of the organizing committee for their tireless efforts in bringing this exhibition to fruition.
During the exhibition period, a wide array of programs, including symposiums and workshops, will also be offered. These events will surely convey not only the pleasure of appreciating artworks, but also the deeper joy of engaging directly with art. Above all, I am confident that hosting such a meaningful international exhibition in Uozu will bring forth the potential of the Niikawa region and help share the unique appeal of Toyama with a broader audience.
I sincerely wish for the great success of this exhibition and for the continued achievements of all participating artists.
