GOALS
趣旨
The artists of the regional city Toyama would like to call out to other artists in and outside Japan to create a new wave across the multi-faceted contemporary art world with their artwork at the ART/X/TOYAMA contemporary art exhibit.
Held in 1993, 1994, and 1997 at Toyama Kenmin Kaikan in Toyama City, since 2002, the venue has moved to the Niikawa Bunka Hall in Uozu City, where it has been presented both in indoor galleries and outdoor spaces. The exhibition has since been held every four years – in 2006, 2010, 2014, 2018, and 2022.
Through its passion and diverse artistic directions, ART/X/TOYAMA has expanded its network of artistic exchange beyond Toyama to other regions of Japan and overseas, including France, Korea, Turkey, Russia, and Poland. As a result, it has gained significant attention and acclaim as a uniquely dynamic exhibition.
With an ever-growing spirit of challenge toward the unknown “X” and with heightened enthusiasm and expectations among the artists, the 10th Anniversary Toyama International Contemporary Art Exhibition, “2026 ART/X/TOYAMA” will be held in May 2026.
